Chapter Service & Philanthropy
Kappa Alpha Theta's national philanthropies are Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation. The Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation provides funding for educational, leadership, and service programs for chapters and individuals to help members reach their fullest potential.
Court Appointed Special Advocates provides and trains volunteers to serve as advocates for neglected and abused children in the court system. Each CASA volunteer has one CASA child. It is the volunteer's responsibility to make sure the child's best interests are represented in court. A CASA volunteer may be the only stable relationship in the child's life and is instrumental in protecting the child. The Illinois Theta chapter works directly with Champaign County CASA so that all of the money we donate goes entirely to our own community. Kappa Alpha Theta at the University of Illinois is Champaign County CASA's largest donor year after year.
Every fall semester, Theta holds one of our annual philanthropies, Theta Hoops. This is a 3-on-3 basketball tournament that fraternities participate in. We rent the street outside our house and set up basketball courts with members of our new pledge class as coaches for the teams.
In the spring semester, Theta holds a signature philanthropy event, Theta Grilled Cheese. Thetas and our kitchen staff provide unlimited grilled cheese, tater tots, and tomato soup to anyone that purchases a ticket.
